Karate!

Tonight, Corey had his second Karate lesson at the Martial Arts Center in South County. He has the official uniform, complete with his own "white" belt. I think that he is really going to enjoy this class. Tonight's instructor was Teresa. They did some warm up exercises, including jumping jacks and pushups, both of which Corey needs a lot of work on. Then, she did kicking and punching drills. Corey did much better at this session than he did on Saturday, his first class. He needs to learn how to pay attention and understand what the instructor is asking. He's more concerned with looking at himself in the mirror and goofing off. I think after a few more lessons, he'll start to get the hang of it. We're going to start practicing with him at home.
Teresa took them through some "team" exercises, where they all had to work together to do a task. She threw out a bunch of different types of cushions and told the kids to sort them into three different groups. Corey's group was first, and he was quite confused as to what he was supposed to do. He just kind of stood around and watched the other kids. THen, the other group went and him actually getting to see what he was supposed to do helped. The next time it was his turn, he picked up one of the biggest cushions and took it right where it was supposed to go. Talk about a proud mommy moment!!!!
I'm going to make every effort to work with Corey and try and teach him the same things they are teaching him in class so he gets the hang of it. He was pretty excited about the whole experience!
