We went to karate on Friday night, after missing the last week and a half from being sick. Corey did pretty good for missing so much, but after about 25 minutes, he starts to lose his focus and attention and starts to jump around and goof and not pay attention. It's very frustrating to watch, because I want him to learn something from these classes (mainly how to defend and protect himself and STAND UP for himself). I think it will come with time. He thinks his teacher is GOD. T.O. (that's what his instructor goes by.....I think his first name is really Tim) always gives him grief and "beats up" on him. Corey just eats it up. The kids were awarded a medal for team competitions that have been going on for the month of April. Corey was actually on the team that had the most points, so he got his medal first. He was SO EXCITED! You would have thought he had just won the world! He's been wearing the medal all weekend.
Saturday was swim lessons. Again, we had missed the last class due to Corey being sick and he was not really happy about going at first. He cried something terrible and didn't want anything to do with getting in the water. However, after his instruction, Rachel, came over and talked to him and got him into the water, he was a changed kid and was smiling and waving and blowing kisses to us through the obversation window. He did really good and at one point, jumped off the edge of the pool with a kick board and swam all the way to the teacher who was in the pool waiting. He has no fear of the water right now. My goal is to get him to where he understands the water and isn't afraid but respects the fact that he has to be responsible. I want him to go on the float trip (if we go), so it's a must that he can at least tread water in case something would happen in the canoe.
We'll be back at karate on Monday, so we'll see how he does.
